Subject Description | On the completion of this unit students will have an appreciation of the legal, social and ethical framework within which engineers must practise. Content: Introduction to law. Contract. Tort. Project delivery systems and engineering contracts. Liability and intellectual property. Corporations law. Environmental law. Origins and development of Australian engineering organisations. The engineer and professional practice. Professional ethics and engineers. The functions of the professional societies. Engineers in government national, state and local Environmental management. Environmental management systems including consideration of the ISO 14 000 series requirements. Environmental effects statements. Marketing theory and business development. Professional services presentation and registrations of interest. Technical communication skills. Technical and commercial negotiation. |
Assessment | One examination not exceeding three hours (70%). One 3000 word assignment or equivalent (30%). |
