Subject Description

An introduction to microeconomic theory and policy. The economy and economic decisions. Production and exchange. Markets, demand and supply. Application of supply and demand. Market structures. Firm costs. Perfect competition. Monopoly. Government in the economy.

Assessment

A 2-hour end-of-semester examination and an optional 40-minute mid-semester examination totalling 80%, with the final mark given being the better of (i) the mid-semester examination weighted 20% and the end-of-semester examination weighted 60% or (ii) the end-of-semester examination weighted 80%; assignments not exceeding 2000 words (10%); tutorial attendance and participation (10%).
