Subject Description | How effective are criminal justice interventions in changing individual behaviour, reducing opportunities for crime and increasing public safety? This subject examines the research evidence about the effectiveness and impacts of selected policies, and methodologies of evaluation. Case studies may include gun control, regulating drug use, dangerous offenders, controlling organised crime and the effectiveness of punishment. Students who complete the subject should have developed a framework for assessing the adequacy of criminological evaluations in terms of the questions being asked, the design being employed, and the measures used in the evaluation. |
Assessment | Written work of 4000 words for 3rd year, 5000 words for 4th year. An examination may be substituted for part of the written work. |
