Two 1-hour lectures and a 1-hour tutorial per week. There will be no tutorials in either the first week or the sixth week of semester

Subject Description

This is an advanced subject on the principles and techniques of syntactic analysis and argumentation, emphasising formalisation of syntactic concepts and the different approaches from various theoretical perspectives. The theoretical frameworks to be investigated include LFG, HPSG and the Minimalist Program. The topics covered will vary from year to year, and they will be drawn from current issues in syntactic theory.

Assessment

Two assignment problems of 500 words each, a class presentation equivalent to 2000 words, and a 1000 word essay for 3rd year, a 2000 word essay for 4th year.
