Subject Description | Working within a digital mediated environment, this subject examines issues regarding the role of language in the media and linguistic viewpoints on media texts. Topics include: the relationship between media, language, text and message; doing media research; non-verbal communication; structure of the media text types; approaches to media text analysis; genre analysis and the media; media representations; using corpora; hypertext issues; developing websites; media literacy. Students are given training in using multimedia tools and current technologies and practice in presenting their research through different media. |
Assessment | Participation in a collaborative project equivalent to 1000 words, an individual class presentation of 2000 words, and participation in group development of a website and a 1000 word report. |
