Subject Description | The subject will focus on three major contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues: Indigenous Research Ethics, Indigenous Intellectual and Cultural Property Rights, and Mabo and Native Title. All three areas explore the way in which indigenous Australians are exerting pressure on the Australian State and its institutions to address the historical imbalance of power that currently exists between indigenous peoples and the dominant system. Students who complete this subject should have gained an understanding of the major issues that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are negotiating with the Federal Government in regard to indigenous rights. |
Assessment | A case study of 1500 words and a research essay of 2500 words. |
