Contact

30 contact hours per semester. Two 1-hour lectures per week for 10 weeks and a 1-hour tutorial per week for 10 weeks. The lecture and tutorial programs are staggered and cover the 12 weeks of semester

Subject Description

This subject forms an introduction to Australian foreign relations, with reference to both global and regional issues affecting Australia. Topics will normally include: the domestic politics of Australian foreign relations; Australia and the western world (US, UK, Europe); Australia and the Asia-Pacific (including relations with key countries such as Japan, China and Indonesia); Australia and the South Pacific. Students should gain a better understanding of the way in which Australia's place in the world has changed in recent times. Students who complete this subject should have an understanding of the domestic and international context of Australian foreign relations and of the implications of a range of global and regional issues for Australia.

Assessment

Written work totalling 4000 words.
