Contact

30 contact hours per semester. Two 1-hour lectures per week for 10 weeks and a 1-hour tutorial per week for 10 weeks. The lecture and tutorial programs are staggered and cover the 12 weeks of semester

Subject Description

The subject aims to provide students with an in-depth analysis of the politics of European Integration, including the policy-making of the European Union (EU) and the tensions of intergovernmentalism and federalism in the approaches of the member states and other participants in the process. Students will trace the EU's origins from post-war recovery to the dynamics of European Integration and explore the approaches to the study of the EU. Students who complete this subject should have a firm knowledge of the policies of the EU and the Economic and Monetary Union, and the institutions of and participants in external relations and foreign policy. Students should also understand the significance of the Single Market, which placed the EU in the position of the world's largest trader, and the relationship between the EU and Australia.
