Subject Description | This subject engages students in a discussion of the dominant lines of thought in Analytic Philosophy this century, dwelling mainly on issues concerning meaning, truth, philosophical analysis, and the changing views of proper philosophical methodology. In particular, attention will be given to the philosophical ideas of Ludwig Wittgenstein, J L Austin, and W V O Quine. Students should develop a good understanding of the development of the problems raised by the selected philosophical theories; and acquire an appreciation of their place in philosophy as a whole. |
Assessment | Written work totalling 4000 words and participation in tutorials. |
