Subject Description | This subject is a history of the peoples of the North European Plain and the Danube Basin, which covers the main fault line between the west and the east, between Catholic and Orthodox Christianity, between Islamic and Christian Empires, between modern progressive societies and despotic Empires, between Capitalism and Communism. This is an area where the 'Old World' remained entrenched into the 20th century, and where its passing was marked by two World Wars. With the fall of Communism it remains at the centre of European crisis zones. Students should complete the subject with a deeper understanding of the complexities of European History; and an improved understanding of the origins of the two World Wars, the spread and fall of Fascism and Communism, and the problems of under-development in its most dangerous European context. |
Assessment | Written work totalling 4000 words. |
