Subject Description

This subject is a study of Jewish society in the 20th century, focusing on the period between the First and the Second World Wars. The subject will study events leading to the Holocaust, and the reconstitution of Jewish life in the post-war period in the State of Israel, Europe and the English speaking world. Major figures in contemporary Jewish culture, film, literature and humour will be studied. Students should complete the subject with a critical understanding of the significant events in, and forms and aspects of, Jewish culture and society in the 20th century.

Assessment

Written work totalling 4000 words.
