Subject Description | This subject is a study of society in the great south land. It explores the dreams, ideas, beliefs and fears that have shaped Australia and focuses on the impact of peoples and their institutions on each other and on the land and its ecology. Beginning with the epic story of the first Australians, students will examine the European invasion, the convict world, the construction of a New World society, the immigrant experience, the building of the cities and the emergence of a complex metropolitan nation by 1914. On completion of the subject students should understand the changing historiography of Australian history and be able to make informed judgements about major historical approaches to the period. |
Assessment | Written work totalling 4000 words. |
