Subject Description

This subject is intended to foster linguistic competence in the areas listed below: oral-aural communication skills required in normal and professional life, in particular, for oral presentations (exposés, interviews, debates, etc.); pronunciation, in particular, acquisition of native-like patterns of delivery; ability to write and translate (French-English; English-French) texts of various length, in different registers in particular, French academic writing. Students should complete the subject with: a mastery of a wide range of vocabulary, related to the themes and genres studied in class; an ability to analyse, discuss and use complex grammatical and discourse structures at sentence and text level.

Assessment

A 90-minute end-of-semester test totalling 1500 words, and written and oral practical exercises totalling 3500 words. NB: For mid-year entry students assessment will be as for 116-040 French IV: Honours Language II.
