Language and Society: three hours per week of written and spoken French. Language in Context: one hour per week of introduction to reading skills

Subject Description

This subject is designed to further develop skills taught in 116-001 Beginners French IA. In the area of writing, students should be capable of writing short essays, of translating short passages from and into French, and be familiar with more complex syntactic structures. Students will be introduced to a study of literature and contemporary French society in small language group classes. All classes will be taught in French and emphasis will be placed on the development of oral fluency and aural competency. Multi-media interactive materials will be used to acquaint students with aspects of French culture.

Assessment

Two written language tests totalling 2000 words, a written texts test totalling 1000 words, and an oral exam totalling 1000 words.
