Subject Description

This subject is an introduction to French and francophone cultures through the study of selected and generally short authentic documents belonging to a broad variety of genres: short prose fiction, poems, feature films, television news stories, newspaper articles. Having worked on the literal comprehension of these documents, and observed in them the linguistic structures taught in 116-010 Intermediate French B, students will then examine their internal organisation and cultural significance. Finally, they will elaborate, orally and in writing, their opinions on what they have read, watched and listened to.

Assessment

Three written assignments in French totalling 2000 words, an oral assignment in French totalling 1000 words to be submitted on audio cassette, and two listening comprehension exercises totalling 1000 words.

Prescribed Texts
