Subject Description

This subject involves the study of literary and historical texts illustrating aspects of Babylonian culture and an introduction to Akkadian epigraphy. On completion of the subject students should have acquired a knowledge of Akkadian grammar; an initial knowledge of the principles of Akkadian philology and epigraphy; and have been introduced to essential aspects of ancient Mesopotamian and Near Eastern culture through the reading of genuine texts of various kinds.
