Subject Description

The subject consists of classes conducted entirely in Japanese. The reading materials used cover such topics as business/economics, history, law, politics, and so forth. The materials are taken from Japanese newspapers, the internet and books such as shinsho and Nihon no ronten. Students should develop spoken skills through discussion and debates in class. Visitors from Japan, if possible, will be invited to give short talks on topics related to the reading materials.

Assessment

Assignments and quizzes totalling 1500 words for 3rd year, 2500 words for 4th year, a 2-hour examination, and a 10-minute oral/aural test. 3rd year students are required to attend a minimum of 70% of all classes in order to be eligible to take examinations.
