Subject Description

This subject is intended to serve the needs of those students whose aim is to learn how to speak Modern Standard Arabic to an extent that will serve them well in almost any Arab country. The emphasis is on developing students' speaking and listening skills in the most commonly used form of spoken Arabic throughout the Arab world. This level focuses on developing students' capacity to identify and repeat words, phrases and sentences heard in meaningful contexts in Arabic, and to communicate with others on a variety of topics. Throughout the subject, students will be provided with models of verbal interaction and ample opportunities to practise them in and outside the classroom context. In this subject, students will not be given any texts written in the Arabic script.
