Subject Description

The subject consists of three parts: Language, which includes a review of Ukrainian grammar, development of conversation and composition skills using texts on contemporary themes; Literature and society, which involves an introduction to major cultural, social and political developments in Ukraine since the 1960s, with a focus on the contemporary situation; selected literary texts of the period are studied. And the Slavic culture core, in which students receive an introduction to the contemporary cultural and social issues confronting Ukraine and other Slavic and East European countries in the 20th century.

Assessment

A 2-hour written examination and; Language: weekly written work equivalent to 1500 words and a 10-minute classpaper; Literature and Culture: a 1500 word essay and a 10-minute classpaper.
