Subject Description | This subject traces the heroic epic tradition of Gilgamesh, Homer and Virgil, with attention also to Apollonius and Catullus. Students, on completion of the subject, should have acquired an understanding of what is meant by 'epic' in its ancient literary context, have an appreciation of ancient epic through the reading of primary texts, and have developed an understanding of the changes in the epic genre in antiquity. |
Assessment | A research essay of 2500 words, a reflective essay of 1500 words, and tutorial participation. |
