Subject Description | This subject introduces the Classical myths in (especially) Greek, but also Roman culture, with particular reference to their currency in literature and in the material remains. Some of the main sources dealt with in the subject are Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, Hesiod's Theogony, the Homeric Hymns, Greek Tragedy, and mythical scenes on Greek vases. Students should become familiar with the principal themes and cultural significance of the myths studied, and of some of the major scholarly approaches to the subject matter. |
Assessment | Written work totalling 2000 words and a 2-hour examination. |
