Subject Description | This subject offers an introduction to contemporary cultural studies by focusing on the media (in particular, film, television, and photography). The subject provides students with an introduction to critical theories of representation and spectatorship and an understanding of the importance of media forms and technologies to contemporary culture. Students who complete this subject successfully should be familiar with methodologies, both critical and theoretical, on which to base further studies in English and Cultural Studies. |
Assessment | Written work totalling 4000 words. Students may produce an audio-visual presentation in lieu of any one essay with permission of the subject coordinator. |
