Subject Description

This subject is an introduction to Spanish linguistics covering aspects of pronunciation, the formation of words and the basic sentence structures of Spanish. It is intended to provide continuing students of Spanish with the basic analytical and descriptive tools essential to advanced language studies and language teaching, while making a significant contribution to the quality of the student's spoken Spanish. Students who complete this subject should have a practical knowledge of the basics of Spanish phonetics, phonology, morphology and syntax.

Assessment

Six assignments of 500 words each and two 1-hour class tests.

Prescribed Texts

A reading list will be supplied in the first week of class.
