Subject Description

Government powers and legislation. The Planning and Environment Act. The Administrative Appeals Tribunal Act. The structure and coordination of the administration of planning in Victoria. The Melbourne Planning Scheme. Non-conforming uses. Permits. Factors affecting the exercise of a discretion by Planning Authorities. Judicial review. Reform of the planning system: the Victorian Planning Provisions. The preparation, submission and examination of planning schemes; planning organisations, the exercise of development control.

Assessment

Two written assignments equivalent to not more than 3000 words (50%), and one three-hour examination (50%).
