Subject Description | This integrative subject equips students to understand the roles, activities, and structure of management in an information systems organisation, and to begin to participate in that management. Topics will include aspects of the following: introduction to management of information systems, the strategic value of information, the three eras of Information Systems, implementing Information Resource Management (IRM) in an organisation, tools for IS strategic planning - Portfolio analysis, Value Chain analysis, SWOT analysis, stakeholder analysis. Case studies in strategic planning. Managing the IS function - compensation and incentive schemes, centralisation and decentralisation, use of technology to enable new organisational designs, personnel selection, training and assessment. IS performance measurement. Organisational transformation using IS. At the completion of this subject, students should:

Assessment | A 3-hour end-of-semester written examination; weekly written assignments of approximately one hour each; individual project of approximately ten hours. The weighting of assessment components will be announced at the commencement of subject. |
