Subject Description | This subject introduces students to a variety of mathematical techniques that can be useful in information systems. Truth tables, quantifiers, valid statements; introduction to graphs and trees; finite state automata and resular languages; mathematical induction; sets, functions and relations, linear orderings, counting principles, ordered and unordered selections; the inclusion-exclusion principle; Euclidean algorithm, modular arithmetic. |
Assessment | One written exam of up to three hours, up to 26 pages of written assignment, and class tests totaling not more than one and one half hours. The weighting of the assessment components will be announced at the commencement of the subject. |
