Subject Description | This subject covers topics selected in each of the following areas: Inorganic Materials and Supramolecular Systems (12 lectures): structural aspects of solid inorganic materials; functional solids, their properties and applications; supramolecular chemistry and self-assembling systems; coordination polymers. Polymers (12 lectures): polymer classification, characterization and properties; step-growth and chain-growth polymerizaton; kinetics of polymerization and molecular weight control; materials applications. Industrial Organic Chemistry (12 lectures): discovery and development of organic chemicals relevant to the chemical industry, including dyes, agrochemicals and pharmaceuticals. |
Assessment | One 3-hour written examination at the end of semester. |
