Subject Description

Content includes: Injury to cells and tissues; reaction to injury; vascular disorders; diabetes; disorders of growth; other pathological processes; environmental and nutritional disorders; genetic and developmental disorders; infectious disease; immunopathology. Evaluating clinical manifestations of diseases in terms of disturbances of structure and function.

By the end of the course students should comprehend the terminology of pathology; the principles and essential information regarding the major types of disease processes, their causes, and the responses of cell, tissues, organs and systems in these disease processes; the effects of injury on cells, organs and system; the morphological and functional characteristics of common and important disease; the molecular basis of pathological processes. They will develop observational and organisational skills to identify the microscopic appearance of disease processes in cells, tissues, organs and systems and communication skills to describe diseases.

Assessment

A 2-hour end-of-semester written examination (100%).
