Three lectures, two hours of laboratory class work and a clinical correlative session per week

Subject Description

The subject content comprises: the development, structure and function of the human nervous system with emphasis on the neural basis of sensory and motor behaviour, including vision, hearing, touch, as well as the control of posture and the movements of the limbs, hand, head and eyes; the organisation of the cerebral cortex, the hypothalamus and limbic system; the regional anatomy of the nervous system; and the organisation of the sensory and motor systems. On completion of this subject, students should appreciate the correlation of structure (macroscopic and microscopic) with function (including behaviour) and should understand the major effects of lesions to clinically important areas and pathways.

Assessment

A 1.5-hour examination during the course (25%) and a 3-hour end-of-semester written examination (75%).
