Subject Description

This subject focuses on the administration of local anaesthesia, communication of oral health information, clinical photography and other imaging techniques. Topics covered include: records and patient information; local anaesthesia; special areas in dentistry; clinical photography; and speech pathology.

On completion of this subject, the student should:

Comprehend: the philosophy of total oral health care for each patient; the interaction of dental auxiliary care with general and speciality care in the overall treatment plan for the individual; and the limitations of particular treatment modalities.

Develop skills in working as a member of a comprehensive health team.

Have developed skills in: administration of local analgesia, clinical photography and other imaging techniques.

Assessment

One 2-hour written examination (40%) at the end of Semester 1, one 2-hour written examination at the end of Semester 2 (40%), and written assignments and practical reports (20%) throughout the year. A pass is required in the written examinations for an overall pass in the subject.
