Subject Description

The objective of this subject is to introduce spatial data management concepts and develop basic skills in the use of geographic information systems.

The Information Society. Information management; the relationship of land and geographic information systems to land administration; the design and application of land and geographic information systems. The technology associated with digital mapping and land and geographic information systems. Data structures; data models. Spatial referencing. Applications.

Assessment

Not more than three hours of written examinations and tests, one essay of not more than 2000 words, and not more than the equivalent of 20 pages of written assignments and reports on practical work. The relative weighting of the assessment components will be published at the commencement of the subject
