Subject Description

The objective of this subject is to develop an understanding of the principles and techniques of least-squares estimation and network adjustment in Geomatics. Contents comprise: the mathematical model and linearisation; types and classification of models; the covariance law and concept of weight; over-determined models and the application of least-squares estimation; parametric and combined adjustment cases; post-analysis of least-squares adjustment results; constrained and sequential estimation; principles of network design and analysis; network adjustment procedures and software; 2D and 3D networks in geomatics

Assessment

Not more than three hours of written examinations and tests, and not more than the equivalent of 60 pages of written assignments and reports on practical work. The relative weighting of the assessment components will be published at the commencement of the subject.
