Subject Description | The objective of this subject is for students: to develop an understanding of approaches to solving moderately complex problems with computers; to develop knowledge of the processes of developing programs - including specification, design and testing; and to be able to demonstrate proficiency in a high level functional programming language (Miranda). Topics covered include: Algorithmic problem solving: problem specification, algorithm design, abstraction, programming languages. Fundamental data structures: numbers, truth values, characters, lists, trees. Fundamental program structures: recursion, higher order functions. Fundamental algorithms. |
Assessment | Project work (expected to take about 30 hours) during semester; and one written examination (not exceeding three hours) at the end of the semester. The project work must be completed satisfactorily to pass the subject. Weighting of assessment components will be advised at the commencement of the subject. |
