Subject Description

Introduction to history of semiconductor engineering. Crystal lattices. Energy bands and carrier distribution. Excess carriers in semiconductors. PN junctions: equilibrium, diffusion, drift. Semiconductor devices: BJTs, FETs, MOS, memory. Transistors on chips: LSI, MSI, VLSI, planar processing. Introduction to optoelectronic semiconductor devices. Microwave semiconductor devices. Charge-coupled devices, sensors, solar cells.

Assessment

One written examination not exceeding three-hours; practice classes, tests, assignments and project reports, not exceeding 20 pages
