Subject Description

On completion of this subject students should; have a working knowledge of computer aided analysis in designing electronic circuits to specifications; gain an understanding of single-stage amplifier designs using op-amps/BJTs/FETs; acquire a knowledge of the use of electronic devices in analog circuits.

The content includes: Introduction to electronic systems, amplifiers: specifications and interfaces; Introduction to computer-aided analysis; Review of diode circuits; Transistors and small-signal models: BJTs, FETs; Amplifier configurations: CE,CC,CB, biasing; Using SPICE for circuit analysis; Operational amplifier applications; Design of BJT/FET amplifiers; Switched mode downconverter with SPICE simulation

Assessment

One written examination not exceeding three hours; practice classes, tests, laboratory reports and notebooks, assignments and project reports
