Subject Description

At the end of this course, students should have a greater awareness of the relationships between the physical and social aspects of transport systems.

Topics covered include: Transport planning and modelling: transport network modelling, travel behaviour modelling. Travel surveys: travel survey process, sample design, questionnaire design. Public transport system design: models of public transport, performance measures for public transport. Traffic impacts of land-use development: trip generation, trip distribution, impacts on local streets.

Assessment

The subject will be assessed on the basis of three written assignments submitted during the semester, plus a three-hour written examination at the end of the semester
