37.5 points of 2nd/3rd-year Criminology subjects (one of which must be 'Introduction to research Methods'), or approval of the subject coordinator for 3rd-year students. Admission to Criminology Honours for 4th-year students.

Subject Description

How effective are criminal justice interventions in changing individual behaviour, reducing opportunities for crime and increasing public safety? The subject examines the research evidence about the effectiveness and impacts of selected policies, and methodologies of evaluation. Case studies may include gun control, regulating drug use, dangerous offenders, controlling organised crime and the effectiveness of punishment.

Assessment

Written work of 5000 words. An examination may be substituted for part of the written work.
