The equivalent of 6 hours per week to a maximum of 150 hours with the agency. It is anticipated that a further 20 hours will be required to set up the placement with the agency prior to commencement of the placement. Six two hourly seminars will be run in

Subject Description

The field study component of the Honours program is designed to provide students with hands-on research experience in the context of a criminal justice agency. The placement is designed as a 'mock' consultancy, not as work experience. The purpose of the subject is to expose students to the operation of various government and community-based agencies and to provide them with an opportunity to enhance their skills of observation, data collection, co-operation with others, listening, analysis, report writing and developing appropriate professional contacts in the course of research.

Assessment

An agency report of 8000 words (practical work may be substituted for part of the written work), and reflection on the Field Work experience of 1500 words. An oral presentation will constitute to 5% of the assessment.
