Two 1-hour lectures and a tutorial per week. There will be no tutorials in the first or the middle week

Subject Description

A survey of the languages of the world from a typological and historical perspective; outline of language classifications, current numbers of speakers and language endangerment. This subject will encourage a greater appreciation of the diversity of human language, and also its universal characteristics.

Assessment

Two assignments of 1000 words each, and a 2000-word essay.
