Completion of 25 points of Computer Science subjects, or by permission of the subject convener. This unit cannot be taken by those who have completed 175-105 Introduction to Language or 175-106 English: Its Structure and History.

Two 1-hour lectures and a tutorial per week. There will be no tutorials in the first or the middle week

Subject Description

An introduction to linguistic analysis and representation with a focus on issues and problems in the computational modelling of natural language (understanding, generation and translation).

Assessment

Three assignments totalling 2500 words and an end of semester 1.5-hour take-home exam.
