Subject Description

Sociologists explore patterns and relationships in the often complex flow of daily events. On the one hand, sociology requires theoretical perspectives to conceptualize the nature of social structure and social action in a global/cross cultural context. On the other hand, sociology needs research tools to produce robust and relevant data - if it is to be more than common sense. This subject explores various aspects of society sociologically. In addition, this subject teaches students how to DO sociology empirically by introducing logic and processes of social research via lectures and hands-on workshops.

Assessment

Workshop assessments and a class test totalling 4000 words.

Prescribed Texts

A reading pack will be made available in the first week of semester.
