Subject Description | This subject introduces students, who have little prior knowledge of economics, to the principal framework by which economists assess decision-making within the public sector and the techniques they use to assist in making these decisions. The subject covers cost determinants, pricing policies, business organisation structures, market structures, cost-benefit analysis, income distribution, equity and income redistribution. These topics will be illustrated with examples from the public sector including pricing policies for services provided by the public sector, government decision-making on the environment, trade practices legislation and microeconomic reform including privatisation. |
Assessment | A 2-hour examination, and two assignments totalling 2000 words. |
