Subject Description

This subject is identical in all respects to 136-042, except for the assessment. To what extent is scientific practice affected by location? This subject will analyse key themes in the development of science in Australia since 1788, setting Australian work in the context of the scientific ideas generally held at the time and examining the conceptual, social and institutional factors that shaped local developments. Current debates about the establishment of science in other emergent countries as well as Australia will provide a comparative context.

Assessment

Written work which may comprise classpapers and essays, and a 2-hour examination totalling 6000 words.
