Subject Description

This subject asks how should we analyse the relationship between technology and society. Current theoretical approaches to the study of technology and social change will be discussed and several case-studies will be examined. These may include domestic technology, information technology, reproductive and gene technologies, cyber-technology, and nuclear technology. Students completing this subject should become familiar with theoretical approaches to technology and social change and be able to critically evaluate the relevance of such approaches to the case studies examined in the subject.

Assessment

Written work which may comprise classpapers, essays and class tests totalling 4000 words.
