Subject Description

An introduction to the history, theory and practice of oral history, discussing the employment of oral evidence, including interviews, in historical research and writing, and offering experience in interviewing and in writing from sources including oral testimony. The workshop will normally focus upon a group project, and interviews conducted by members will be utilised as a source for class written work.

Assessment

Written work totalling 5000 words. Students will conduct a minimum of ten interviews, each lasting at least one hour, submit reports on those interviews, and submit interview summaries with notes and/or tapes.
