Subject Description

The subject examines the relationship between ritual behaviour, gender relations and new societal structures in western and central Europe in the period between the later fifteenth and late seventeenth centuries. Students will be able to explore new understandings of the relationship between societal change and gender in the recent historiography of early modern Europe; and appreciate the role of ritual behaviour in representing and constructing cultural meanings.

Assessment

Written work totalling 4000 words.
