Subject Description

In the last third of the eighteenth century, much of the western world experienced unprecedented change. Many historians are convinced that this 'Age of Revolutions' was among the key turning-points of western, even world history. One of the most spectacular examples of such upheavals occurred in the 13 British colonies along the eastern coast of North America. This subject is a study of the origins and nature of the American Revolution of 1763-1776 and of its outcomes. How revolutionary were these changes? What was its impact on American Indians, slaves and women?

Assessment

An exercise of 500 words, and an essay of 1500 words, and a review essay of 2000 words, and 10% tutorial participation.
