Subject Description

An introduction to the cultural study of the German nation. Students will have gained an understanding of the cultural, intellectual and social framework that shaped Germany in the period 1871 to 1945. They will have been introduced to a range of seminal 19th and 20th-century German texts of a political, literary and social nature which cast light on Germany's emergence as a 'cultural nation' and thereby encountered different interpretative approaches to cultural studies in German. No knowledge of the German language required.

Assessment

Written work totalling 4000 words.
