Subject Description | Advanced grammar. Translation in both directions. Composition. Close study of literary texts. By the end of the subject students should be able to: demonstrate a very solid control of the grammatical system; demonstrate a fairly large active and passive vocabulary, sufficient for the following - translating medium-difficulty texts (Russian to English) without a dictionary and difficult ones with a dictionary; writing and conversing in Russian on relatively serious topics (e.g. social or political issues); understanding normal spoken Russian (e.g. lectures, broadcast talks) on any general topic; understanding the content and literary structure of selected literary texts (by commenting and translating). Deeper knowledge of Russian society and culture. |
Assessment | A 1-hour exam on the language component, and a 1-hour exam on the literature component, and a 15-minute oral exam, and written work totalling 1250 words. |
