Subject Description

A beginners subject covering the basic grammatical system of Russian; teaches students to translate simple texts from Russian into English and vice versa; provides students with an active knowledge of around 1200 words and a passive knowledge of a further 500 words (all from the textbook).

Assessment

A 1-hour test in mid-semester, regular assignments totalling not more than 2500 words, and a 10-minute oral exam at the end of the semester.

Prescribed Texts

  • E Stepanova et al, Russky yazyk dlia vsekh (Russian for Everybody). 6th edition or later.
